2010/2011 EVALUATIONS

Please take the time to read the following information before having your child attend evaluations.  This information will also be handed out at the first evaluation session.

The schedule for evaluations is at the end of all of this very important reading......

Rep Team Spring Training

Begins Monday May 3rd and will run for 8 weeks, not including the May long weekend (May 24th) with the final session on Monday June 28th.

Times to be announced.

Team practices will take place on Mackie Turf and Sands Grass with the guidance of our Head Coach, Ajit Braich.

Players should attend even if their coach cannot

Rep Team Information & Expectations:

This information sheet has been put together to try and answer the questions that parents and players might have regarding Rep Teams and the level of commitment required.  Expectations will differ from team to team, so always check with the team coach on what he/she is specifically expecting.

Rep Team Purpose:

The purpose of a Rep Team is to provide an opportunity for qualified players to compete at a higher level of competition with players of similar abilities. Identifying these players is done through evaluations.  Rep Teams are recognized as Gold and Silver for U12-U18 and Developmental for U11.  “Select” teams are District teams for the 2010/2011 season.

Team Selection:

Players are evaluated on the basis of a number of soccer related skills and abilities by a Club appointed evaluation committee (comprised of the Club Head Coach and other Professional Coaching Staff, volunteers from other age groups and members of our Executive).  Players are evaluated on their athletic ability, attitude, technical skills and aptitude for the game.  Feedback regarding their overall performance and attitude during previous playing seasons is also taken into consideration.

Commitment:

To play at a Rep level will involve a greater commitment of time, travel and sometimes additional costs than Bronze level teams.

It is expected that Rep Teams will train two times per week and will play one game per week.  Additional team training may also be required and could include core conditioning or related skills sessions during the week, in addition to practices. This will be determined by the coaching staff for individual teams.

While NDYSC encourages players to participate in other sports and pursuits, playing at a Rep level suggests the players will make the appropriate commitment needed for the benefit of themselves and their team.  If players are unable to meet

the commitment of time for training once chosen to a Rep team, that player may be asked to resign from the team and play at a different level within the Club.

Additional Training:

Rep players and teams are strongly encouraged by the Club to register for NDYSC Academy training sessions (at an additional cost), which take place Friday evenings at Dennis Elsom turf.  This additional training is done by our Club Head Coach and other professional coaching staff and runs for the majority of the fall/winter season (approximately 22 weeks).  Registration information will be available on our website before the end of June 2010.

Rep Fees:

Rep players are required to pay $75/player, in addition to the Club registration fees, once selected to a rep team.  This extra fee is to offset additional costs associated with Rep teams.  These extra costs include additional field time, additional professional coaching time, additional refereeing and assistant refereeing costs and additional equipment.

The Rep fee is due to the Team Manager no later than June 1st 2010.  The Team Manager will submit the Team Rep fees immediately thereafter to the Club Registrar.

Rep Season:

May 3rd to June 28th 2010: Rep teams will take part in 8 one-hour training sessions Monday evenings run by the team coach in conjunction with the Club Head Coach.

August 23rd 2010: Regular training sessions commence twice a week.

Labour Day Weekend: Rep teams are encouraged to participate in a Labour Day tournament as warm up for the upcoming season.

September 11th 2010: League games are scheduled to begin.

March 2011: Most league games end, but successful Cup play can extend the season into April, with Provincial Cup finals being held in early July.

Refunds:

Players selected onto a Rep Team are required to notify the team within 48 hours of their acceptance of the team position.  Failure to notify the team may result in the position being awarded to another player.  Further, players that accept a position on a Rep Team, and subsequently withdraw from the team more than 48 hours after providing their acceptance notice, shall not be eligible for a refund (of either the registration or rep fees) in the event such withdrawal is for the purpose of playing in a club other than North Delta Youth Soccer.  The only exception being a family and/or household move to another District.  Decisions on such matters shall be governed by the Executive in their sole discretion.

Frequent Asked Questions about Evaluations:

How do we register for evaluations?

All players need to be registered for the upcoming season before coming to an evaluation. This is important because each team can only have a certain number of players on their team that are not living in Delta District. Registration is done on-line at www.northdeltasoccer.com and we accept payment by cheque or credit card.  Players are not considered registered until we have received payment.

Registration for evaluations is done only at the field.  At the first evaluation session, the players will check in and we will confirm they are registered for next season.  Each player will pay their  $10 evaluation fee (cash or cheque made payable to NDYSC) and will be given a pinnie with a number that is used to track that player for all of the sessions.

Players who are not registered for the 2010/2011  season and who do not pay their $10 evaluation fee will not be eligible to attend evaluations.

What is the evaluation fee and what is it for?

There is a one-time fee of $10 to attend evaluations, and it is paid at the first evaluation session. The fee is used to offset the cost of paid technical evaluators, field costs and equipment used during the evaluation sessions.

How many evaluation sessions are there and do I need to attend all of them?

Each age group has 2-3 sessions.  The first one or two are open sessions and the third is an invitation only session.  Players are expected to attend both open sessions and if requested, the invitation only session.  It is in the players’ best interest to attend all sessions as it will offer greater exposure of the player’s abilities.

·        Open sessions are for all players in that age group interested in trying out for a Rep team.

·        Invitation only sessions are for a select group of players that are asked by the evaluators to return for a final session.

·        Players are expected to attend both open sessions and if requested, the invitation only session.

·        Players will be notified via email if they are invited to the invitation only session.

What if I cannot attend all sessions?
If you cannot attend an evaluation session, you need to email the Club Registrar at registrar@ndysc.com, and provide the date you need to miss and the reason why, as soon as possible.

When will we know who the Rep Coaches will be?

Coaches will generally be announced before evaluations begin and be posted under ‘Rep Coaches’ on the Club website. Sometimes the Coach will not be decided until part way through the evaluation process, but will be announced as soon as the Club has appointed a Coach.

Who does the evaluations?

Internal and external evaluators are used, and whenever possible, they will be independent of the age group being evaluated.  The Club Head Coach will oversee the evaluation process with assistance from Coaches and Club Executive Members.

What is the evaluation process?

Evaluators will have a list of players, by pinnie number, and a list of criteria they will be evaluating against. Evaluators will observe the players as they participate in drills, small-sided and in some cases full-sided games.  Players are also evaluated on their athletic ability, attitude, technical skills and aptitude for the game.  Feedback regarding their overall performance and attitude during previous playing seasons is also taken into consideration.

Evaluations are based on the level of skills required for the different tiers of teams (Gold, Silver, Bronze/Red & Developmental).

How are the teams selected?

At the completion of the final evaluation, the Evaluators will identify the players to be included in the selection pool.  The pool will consist of approximately 25% more players than required on the team roster.  Player selections will be made by a committee comprised of the Club Head Coach, Team Coach, evaluators and, if required, members of the Club Executive. This is a discretionary process and decisions, while not always perfect, are final.

How are the players notified?

Within 48 hours of the final evaluation, email notification will be sent to each player advising them if they have been selected to the team they were being evaluated for.  Each player will be required to confirm or decline their acceptance to the selected team.

What else do I need to know about Rep Teams?

Please refer to “NDYSC Evaluation Letter” which will outline expectations of players who are selected to play on a Rep Team, as well as additional information pertinent to Rep Teams.
